My greatest lesson from sustainability: the absolute bottom line and the most important thing in life is life itself.
Being special often means feeling different, rejected and marginalized
Life shall teach you strangeness is your greatest strength and virtue
And your uniqueness what makes Nature complex and beautiful
Green Technology Alone Will Not Save the Planet
No matter how mighty and green technology turns, true sustainability will need an upgrade of our psychology, culture and institutions.
Become an Ecosystem
Be the thriving ecosystem you want the world to become
Live as if you were part of a natural ecosystem
Distill nature inspired principles, designs, systems and models so that we can restore the biosphere and build a truly sustainable world future
Living in a Dangerous Bubble
If my fellow humans could only realized how insignificant our modern ambitions, goals and dramas are compared to the threat our unquestionable Way of Life poses to our very Life Sustaining System.
About Green Products
Green consumerism is a palliative for the conscience of the consumer class, allowing us to continue business as usual while feeling like we are doing our part.
It is amazing to see how the egotistical obsession with ourselves can cloud our judgement so much that we can completely detach from the urgent growing list of planetary priorities which make many indulgent trans-humanist goals not just unimportant but shamefully frivolous.
Who Will Really Raise Environmental Consciousness?
It won’t be green technology, policy or business that will ensure our shift towards sustainability but the losses caused by climate change and other major global crises.
Looking for a Way Out?
As scary and puzzling as it may sound, the only way out is in. The only way to transcend the obstacles and limitations of our reality is to go inside of ourselves.
We lose precious time, energy and sanity holding a tight grip to a false notion of security and an even falser notion of a static, predictable and controllable outside reality. We must understand today’s reality is a complex system accelerating in change, and engage with it as surfers engage scary big ocean waves. Riding the chaos of change will allow us to capitalize on the emergent pattern.
Realistic Responsible Optimism
When confusion and insecurity are exploited by hype, ideology and fundamentalism, a new optimism must rise from the unlimited human creativity and the unprecedented opportunity to renew human perception, activity and infrastructure in the world. Such optimism must nonetheless be insured by daring realism and unconditional responsibility for us and the rest of the planet.
The Risk of Interim Solutions
If we drag our feet implementing the permanent solution and keep the interim, partial or temporary solution long enough, we will most likely make the problem worse. If we wait for corporations and governments to get over their fear embracing sustainable technologies and development, and allow them to buy time with interim solutions they call “steps in the right direction”, we will lose the opportunity window to address our sustainability challenges.
The River of Sustainability
When the river of sustainability overflows its environmental course and spills over terrain of developing world communities, the seed of true sustainability starts growing.
No Time to Argue
We have a developing planetary emergency. We cannot afford any time disputing our differences, egos or petty life dramas. We are on the most critical mission we could ever fathom. We have no time to argue.
There Is No Progress Without Disruption
Every major step forward in the progress of humanity has not come without challenging the status quo and producing at least a temporary disruption in society. The advent of modern science, the human rights movement or the end of Apartheid did not come without fierce opposition and violence. But today we could not conceive life and civilization without the improvements such disruptive goals brought to the human condition. Today we are again surrounded by those opposing the next step in human history, the most critical step in our 200,000 year history. We are looking at nothing short of the changes required for the preservation of our species and our planet. We humans will need to once again embrace disruption and swiftly implement unprecedented change toward sustainability in our socio-technical infrastructure, if we want to avoid the worst.
Web of Life
Whatever befalls the earth befalls the son of the earth. Man did not weave the web of life; he is merely a strand of it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.
Love is a Weapon
In this dog-eat-dog world we face every other day I make a conscious effort to remind myself that the power of love must never be underestimated. It is just that it flies under the radar for most of us but believe me it is there. A stealth weapon available to everyone with the courage to assassin the perceptions that draw us apart.
Hi, I’m from Neptune
Either you repeat the same conventional doctrines everybody is saying, or else you say something true, and it will sound like it’s from Neptune
