Technology for the Developing World (MTDW) was created to offer fertile space for designers , engineers, inventors, entrepreneurs, environmental and social justice activists who can work together as a professional cross functional team and share a passion for creating and implementing technologies in Michigan that will improve living conditions in the third world or provide disaster relieve around the planet, including the US. There are low tech affordable technologies to provide essential services such as fresh potable water, energy or housing. The demand for such services and technologies is going to increase dramatically as climate change intensifies.

Biomimicry Michigan (2010)

Biomimicry is the study of nature’s designs and processes for human application. The word biomimicry derives from the Greek words bios, (life), and mimesis, (to imitate). Biomimicry takes nature’s best biological ideas and technologies to innovate and provide solutions to human challenges.
One example of biomimicry is raising fuel efficiency designing vehicles to be slippery in the air or water through the adoption of shape features used by fish. Another example is an office building complex in Harare, Zimbabwe which naturally keeps cool without the need for air conditioning.
Biommicri Michigan is a forum to satisfy one’s creative desires and exercise your life-centered values through nature inspired design. This group shares the science and art of biommicri through new elegant innovative designs and models to beautify the world and make it more sustainable.
Renewable Energy Educational Laboratory (REELAB) (2009-2012)
REELAB is an educational systems developer in clean emerging technologies for educators and industry. REELAB has a background on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RE3) training programs, electrification of transportation and the smart electrical grid. Current responsibilities include:

My vision of sustainability transforming our industry-based social environment still mostly disconnected from our life-supporting ecosystem, Nature, into an industrial ecosystem capable of integrating itself into Nature and even restoring Nature.
White paper researching strategies to increase fuel efficiency at the whole vehicle systems level. Unlike the common approach to enhanced mileage focused primarily on the vehicle powerplants such as diesel, hybrid and electric, this study took a systemic approach evaluating all the sources of energy consumption that could be optimized for higher efficiency and fuel savings. Prepared for the Ecology Center in Ann Arbor, MI.
